United States and Chinese Trade War Escalates

The United States implemented an increase to tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese exports when trade talks failed to produce a resolution last week.
Tariffs on the targeted exports increase from 10% to 25% and have the Chinese government pledging to take the necessary countermeasures.
China’s Ministry of Commerce said “We hope the United States will meet us halfway, and work with us to resolve existing issues through cooperation and consultation.”
The higher tariffs will be applied to relevant US-bound goods exported from China on or after Friday, May 10th, 2019.
